#20: Dinos and Best-sellers
Hello, dear readers. It’s the second December Tiny Letter. A quick read, a quick write. It’s done before you know it. If only we could say that about some other things…
I. Watch of the Week
This is a fun video on an excellent-sounding one-shot PbtA game!
II. Links of the Week
Prime in the Dark: Love this idea around flashbacks in Forged in the Dark games paying off Chekov’s Guns. Priming is an invented term - referring to the moment when players draw attention to an object but don’t give reasons yet. The more times the object is primed, the less it costs in stress to flashback to it.
People are using Agon in virtual classrooms and enjoying the results!
An introduction to ‘Selling Your Indie Product to Retailers’ - mostly the new handful of online e-retailers like Spearwitch.
Some resources on how to make RPG zines including links to printers in the US and UK.
Slightly unbearable profile of Mike Pondsmith, creator of the Cyberpunk roleplaying game, in the Atlantic. The breathless tone of the whole piece could’ve been skipped but worth reading if you care about Cyberpunk Red.
Tips on helping new players have a good first session with a TTRPG.
GeekNative managed to get DriveThru to share some details about the best-selling games published in 2020 and released lists based on genre.
The horror list in mostly just Onyx Path supplements for Vampire and WoD. The only other items are a war game, Thousand Year Old Vampire, an OSR anthology to raise money for Black Lives Matter, a Chaosium bestiary, and Vaesen.
At least, it’s more interesting than the Sci-fi list.
The historical list is actually interesting with a mix of games - Wolves of God, Aquelarre, Brindlewood Bay (?!), Agon, etc.
The ‘other best-selling fantasy list’ is interesting. The first item on the list is a supplement for 5e that fixes their ‘race’ rules. Second place is Ironsworn’s Delve supplement and fourth on the list in Flying Circus!
